Do you ever wonder how other people see you? What they think of you? How they'd describe you if someone asked them? I'm just curious and thought I'd throw this out there and see what everyone thinks. I feel people base their opinions on you through your actions and when you're around them. Whether that be actions they see you perform or things you choose to share with them. So much forms their opinions. They base their opinions of how you dress, how you deal with other people.
What brings this up for me is the events of yesterday. How I was stunned how this person claimed they were so offended I didn't choose them to attend an event in a particular grouping. My opinion was based on this person's work performance, their restraint, professionalism and substance abuse. In terms of choosing one person over another with similar qualities I based it on restraint and professionalism. When the person I didn't choose responded they way they did I knew I had made the correct decision. The outburst and tantrum was unnecessary and very unprofessional and that in effect helped cement my choice.
How you handle yourself in a work environment has a lot of bearing on advancement and wage enhancements. You can hold yourself back from what you might feel are guaranteed entitled rewards. What you do and say factor in on how someone will see you as a person or employee. That's something that is under your control. I think people fail to take credit for their own short comings. Of course from time to time you will be misjudged but if you send out the wrong information about yourself that's partly your own fault.
So my questions are... do people see what you want them to see? Are you showing them who you are? Or do you do what you want and expect them to overlook things that don't come up to par? Do you resent them because they act on what you've proven to them? Do you take responsibilty for your own actions?
